We have promoted the LADM BODY for four years. These dancers have what it takes... a healthy attitude and a strong will…the L.A. DanceMagic lifestyle. Here's Alannah's essay below...
Growing up in today’s world can be difficult. The media emphasizes good looks and the “ideal” way a person should look. I focus on maintaining a positive outlook on life. Maintaining a healthy mindset allows my inner beauty to shine through. That is what the media should focus on—inner beauty—instead of what a person looks like from the outside.
To me confidence, optimism, and determination are beautiful. I do not put harmful things in my body, such as drugs, alcohol, steroids, and so on. I try to keep my body in the best condition I can because I need to be at my best to dance my best, feel good about myself, and have the ability to work hard. I know people who do drugs and drink alcohol. I choose not to because I do not see the point. I have no reason to do those things. I hear arguments from people who do saying that it makes them feel better or it helps them do things better. It does not make sense to harm my body. Doing drugs, drinking alcohol, or using steroids doesn’t seem logical to me because why would I need those things to achieve my dreams and be good at what I do? Those things would inhibit me from doing my best and feeling good about who I am. I see myself for who I am and I work hard because I like myself. I do not need drugs and alcohol in order to like myself.
I feel that whatever I achieve should come from hard work and determination. I attribute this to dance. I have been taught to never give up, and that the only way to succeed is to continue trying until you do. Dance is both a mental and physical sport. My teachers have always told me that 80% of doing something is deciding to do it and the other 20% is following through. I know that I can do whatever I set my mind to, but I have to be in the best health, mentally and physically. Hangovers and dead brain cells would prevent this. Dancing has made me see that I am beautiful the way I am, and that my body needs to be respected. I love that dance is universal and is something that anyone can do no matter what size you are, what your background is, or what language you speak. There is no greater feeling than when I am dancing. I want to continue dancing for the rest of my life and the only way to do that is to take care or my body. Dance is my greatest passion and I would never to compromise that.
